Selecting Polymers That Truly Fit the Application is about choosing performance over habit. While Hexene(C6) LLDPE is the most popular material for water tanks due to its balance of cost, durability, and mouldablity, it is not always the best solution for every environment, especially where higher structural loading, or long-term deformation are concerns. For more demanding applications that require lighter weight, greater stiffness, and higher strength, advanced options such as high-performance LLDPE, metallocene PE, and specialty formulations can deliver superior structural integrity, improved impact resistance, and longer service life. There should be no argument that maintaining quality and consistency through process control is the prime objective for any rotomoulder. Good process control gives the moulder the best possible chance of producing consistent, high-quality parts cycle after cycle. This workshop reviews the key powder quality characteristics, outlines the basic quality tests every powder manufacturer should perform, and highlights the simple, low-cost, practical tests that any rotomoulder can carry out whether the powder is purchased or pulverised in-house. From sintering to nucleating: mastering the cooking and cooling cycle in rotomoulding | Diogenes Almeida, Matrix Polymers
This work demonstrates that controlling heating, sintering, nucleation, and cooling processes is critical to improving rotomoulded part quality, productivity, and energy efficiency. By optimising internal air temperature, promoting better melt sintering, enhancing crystallisation through nucleation, and managing cooling rates, manufacturers can significantly reduce pinholes, shorten cycle times, lower gas consumption, and improve mechanical properties. We have case studies to show advanced materials and controlled cooling techniques can deliver up to 15–20% cycle time reduction, improved surface quality, and higher consistency, highlighting that process control is as important as material selection in achieving high-performance rotomoulded products. AS/NZS 4766:2020 – Rotationally moulded buried, partially buried and non-buried storage tanks for water and chemicals – remains an important reference point for suppliers & manufacturers across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
ARMA is aware that the latest amendment has prompted considerable discussion across the industry and, in some cases, concern regarding its interpretation, implementation costs, and practical impact. The changes have been felt particularly strongly in the New Zealand market.
This discussion group has been created to provide a constructive forum for participants to share perspectives and better understand the intent and implications of the amendment. Bringing together manufacturers, industry representatives, certified operators, and contributors to the Standards process, the session is designed to encourage open and respectful dialogue.
While AS/NZS 4766 is not an ARMA standard, ARMA recognises the importance of listening to members and creating opportunities for meaningful conversation on issues that affect the broader industry. We believe challenging topics are best addressed through collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect.
The objective of this session is not to debate positions, but to better understand the range of perspectives, and to explore practical next steps when it comes to the Australian and New Zealand standards process.

We will also talk about how we combined extrusion moulding and rotomoulding to create underground storage systems to save more space on the surface areas. Internal Air Temperature (IAT) measurement inside the mould is the best method to obtain optimum cure temperature & optimum cooling temperature. However, IAT is not widely used by moulders using biaxial rotation to continuously control their process, often because the operator must intervene every cycle to manage the measuring equipment. We will compare the advantages & disadvantages of equipment which measures IAT versus equipment which continuously measures the external surface of the mould. This presentation will challenge you to consider the advantages of using non-contact IRT to continuously standardise your process - without the disadvantage of operators having to manage IAT every cycle.
