Leading by Example: How Plastic Fabrications Is Supporting a Cleaner Australia Every Day

26th February 2026

Each year, Clean Up Australia Day reminds Australians that protecting the places where we live and work is a shared duty. For the rotational moulding industry, it is also a chance to highlight the measures many ARMA members already use to prevent plastic loss, cut waste and strengthen circular manufacturing.

Plastic Fabrications, an Australian owned rotational moulding business and ARMA member, has built environmental responsibility into daily operations through practical, industry led measures. From stopping plastic feedstock loss to closing the loop on end-of-life products, the company shows what can be achieved within the sector.

Preventing Plastic Feedstock Loss at the Source: Operation Clean Sweep

Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) Australia is a global initiative that aims for zero pellet, flake and powder loss across the plastics value chain. It supplies tools and guidance that improve housekeeping, containment and spill prevention in the plastics supply chain including manufacturing and logistics.

Plastic Fabrications applies the OCS framework on site and sends staff to the annual Melbourne Nurdle Hunt, where volunteers collect stray resin pellets. This volunteer program underscores that preventing plastic loss requires both strong systems and visible action.

Clean Up Australia Day: A Timely Industry Reminder

Clean Up Australia Day removes litter already in the environment, while Operation Clean Sweep stops it escaping in the first place. Together they remind us that stopping pollution at its source carries the same weight as removing what has already escaped.

For ARMA members, the national clean-up event is a prompt to check powder handling practices and consider joining OCS as part of a long term environmental commitment. The program is free in Australia and fits easily into existing quality and environmental systems.

Closing the Loop: Plastic Fabrications’ Life Cycle Service (Regrind)

Plastic Fabrications also advances circular manufacturing through its Life Cycle Service (Regrind). Many of its products use recyclable polyethylene that can be ground back into feedstock.

The company accepts products at the end of their service life, processes both postproduction waste and returns on site, and reintroduces the material into new manufacture. The service cuts reliance on virgin resin and gives customers a clear end-of-life pathway for their rotomoulded products.

Showcasing What Rotomoulding Can Achieve

Plastic Fabrications shows how the rotational moulding sector can lead on environmental performance. Participation in Operation Clean Sweep, field work at nurdle hunts and a closed-loop regrind service prove that sustainable rotomoulding already exists.

As Clean Up Australia Day approaches, ARMA invites members to adopt similar measures by joining Operation Clean Sweep, taking part in nurdle hunts or investigating sustainable solutions. Each action contributes to a cleaner environment and a more responsible industry.
