Sign up to OCS This Clean Up Australia Day!
28th February 2025
With Clean Up Australia Day happening on Sunday, 2 March, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind our members about Operation Clean Sweep (OCS)—a simple but powerful way for rotomoulders to prevent plastic feedstock loss and protect our environment.
Why not sign up to OCS this Clean Up Australia Day and commit to a cleaner future? Remember to tell ARMA that you have taken the pledge so we can add your logo to the growing list of our members and supporters who are already OCS partners.
One ARMA member already leading the way is Formit, and we’re excited to share their experience with the program.
Formit’s Journey with Operation Clean Sweep: Taking Action for a Cleaner Future
At Formit, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a commitment to future generations. That’s why we signed up for Operation Clean Sweep, an initiative aimed at preventing plastic feedstock loss and keeping our environment free from microplastics.
Why We Joined
Our motivation was simple: we want to make a difference. As manufacturers, we recognise our responsibility to minimise plastic waste and create a better world for our children and their children. We first heard about OCS through an ARMA newsletter, and it immediately aligned with our values.
Putting OCS Into Action
Since signing up, we’ve implemented several measures to prevent plastic feedstock loss, including:
- Segregating plastics and checking loads upon receipt
- Cleaning spills immediately to prevent material loss
- Improving our dispensing systems for better control
- Enhancing our processes, such as trimming bays, granulation, and reprocessing
Our team is at the heart of these efforts. We keep plastic containment top of mind through constant discussions and monitoring, ensuring everyone plays a role in keeping our facility clean and efficient.
The Impact So Far
While we’re still refining our processes, we’ve already seen a reduction in powder loss from spills. Every small improvement gets us closer to our goal of reducing waste and our carbon footprint.
Overcoming Challenges & Looking Ahead
Thankfully, implementing OCS was a smooth process—we were committed from the start and worked hard to make it happen. Our journey isn’t over, but taking the first step was key.
Looking ahead, we’re focusing on even bigger sustainability initiatives:
- Continue our efforts in stopping microplastics from entering the environment
- Utilise solar power
- Reducing reliance on gas ovens by transitioning to electric moulds and new equipment
A Message to Other Rotomoulders
If you’re considering signing up for Operation Clean Sweep, just do it.
“We get one planet. We need to start looking after it for all future generations.”
